I'd say about two months ago a friend posted on her facebook about a race to the top of a building in Chicago for charity. I thought wow how fun, then I read more into it and though oh my 80 stories, wow.
I waited a few days and then decided it was just the type of challenge I wanted to take. Fast forward to today....and I did it!
Everyone that I told about it was like either wow, oh good luck, or are you crazy!
I was nervous, but I knew that deep down I could do it, I would just have to overcome some mental blocks along the way.
As our team neared to start of the stairway, I was nervous, I was scared and I was ready to do it. I started about 2 by 2 with the stairs until about the 5th floor. Then I decided wow, this was going to be a long race! All the prep work said set a slower pace than you think or later you will be hurting.
I was surprised it was my right trap muscle that started hurting first. We had lifted upper body yesterday and I was using my right arm to pull myself up the railing. So I started to switch to the left arm, but I just wasn't balanced enough, so then I went to the hands on hips method for a while.
Each 15 floors or so you could get pepped up by a group of people cheering/handing out water. I stopped a few times to regroup.
When I got to 40, I knew I had it, I was like I can do another of what I just did! When I got to 60 it got better, at 62 I was like ONE THOMPSON HALL Left (that was my 18 floor dorm that we used to climb for fun!!!) and 78th floor I saw a big CUB Wrigley sign that made me laugh.
At one point my ears started popping!!!
It was so awesome to cross the finish line. I'm so glad that I did it. They will post times tomorrow. I wasn't doing my for time, but I'd like to know how long it actually took me!!!!
I would definitely say I felt the worst at floor 20, but it never got better or any worse than that...
On to the next adventure.....April 10th....Shamrock Shuffle 8k run!!!!
